Involving parents and families in afterschool science, engineering, and technology (SET) programming produces real payoffs for youth, families, and afterschool programs. Learn how to extend youth’s learning and increase their interest in SET through family science nights, family take-home backpacks, and other strategies that involve parents in your afterschool program.

Learning Outcomes:

1 . To acquaint participants with the benefits of involving parents and other family members in SET afterschool programming.

2 . To enhance confidence and competence in effectively engaging families in SET activities and strategies that support their children’s acquisition of SET knowledge and skills.

3 . Enhance competence in effectively engaging families.

Each professional development session offered by The Children’s Cabinet utilizes a knowledge check to ensure that our participants understand our training objectives and our instructors are providing a comprehensive learning experience. You can expect to receive a three question quiz or test at the end of each training. If you have questions or concerns, or need additional information about this process, feel free to contact the Professional Development Training Coordinator at 775-856-6200.
