Kim Young, Children’s Cabinet Executive Director

Reno, NV The Children’s Cabinet is pleased to announce Kim Young as executive director. Young has served as the interim executive director since April, following the retirement of longtime Executive Director Mike Pomi. Young was selected from a premier group of candidates with the full support of the Board of Trustees after a strategic regional search, deliberation and selection process over the last several months. Founded in 1985, The Children’s Cabinet is one of Nevada’s largest nonprofits with a statewide network of programs and services assisting more than 12,000 families each year with support and wrap-around services.

“Kim’s proven leadership experience and dedication to The Children’s Cabinet make her the best choice to lead the agency into the future,” said Michael Russell, Children’s Cabinet Board of Trustees 2018 chair, who led the search committee. “Kim’s ability to make strategic, proactive decisions combined with her collaborative staff leadership skills, and her ability to advance valuable relationships with community partners and businesses will expand The Children’s Cabinet’s impact and reach for the communities, families and children we serve. We are confident that her experience and passion for our community will help us continue our mission of keeping children safe and families together.”

A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in social work, Young began her career with The Children’s Cabinet in the early 1990s as a program director of an academic program for at-risk youth. She returned to The Children’s Cabinet in 2013 as the organization’s grant writer, raising more than $10 million in public and private funds. Young was appointed director of operations for The Children’s Cabinet in January 2018 before stepping into the role of interim executive director, where she has overseen the mission, vision, budgeting, fundraising and day-to-day operations of the organization over the past seven months. Young’s background also includes various leadership and consulting positions with nonprofits and independent organizations in both California and Nevada, including the Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Project, VegasParent.com, ParentClick.com and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

“I am excited to be part of the continued growth and outreach of The Children’s Cabinet,” said Young. “My vision for the future of this organization, and its impact on children and families throughout Nevada, closely aligns with our mission and the goals of our passionate board and leadership team. Together, we can continue our role in providing essential resources, programs and support to children and families from birth to 24 years old.”

Michael Dermody, Reno business leader and founder of The Children’s Cabinet voiced his enthusiasm.

“Kim possesses a clear passion for The Children’s Cabinet, in addition to key leadership experience and organizational knowledge,” Dermody said. “She is committed to providing families with choices, support and quality services. Her dedication to developing and implementing programs that meet the changing needs of our community will enable The Children’s Cabinet to continue its important role in supporting Nevada’s Children.”
