Support for Employers of Working Parents

The Children’s Cabinet is pleased to offer free consultations and technical support to Nevada businesses of all sizes and industries looking to create family-friendly policies that enable working parents to join and stay in the workforce.

According to ReadyNation, the Nevada economy loses $1 billion each year due to a lack of child care. When parents cannot access care and struggle to get to work, businesses suffer due to absenteeism, turnover, and loss of productivity. Fewer working parents also means less income that is put back into our local economies.

There are many solutions available that boast strong returns, so there is something for every business. Family-friendly benefits can reduce turnover by 60% and save at least six to nine months of an employee’s salary from improved retention. The gold standard is on-site childcare, a powerful tool for companies who have the budget and facilities to support it. For employers where this is not a realistic option, there are many options worth exploring that also have a return on investment, such as:

  • Access to community resources (free and easy)
  • Nursing room (low-cost)
  • Child care assistance (stipends, backup care, business accounts with online concierge services)
  • Scheduling flexibility (remote or hybrid schedules, shift swap apps)

The Children’s Cabinet has assisted Nevada employers with successfully implementing new resources, nursing support, parental leave, and on-site child care. When surveyed, businesses unanimously state that The Children’s Cabinet helped them meet their goals, contributed to employee well being, and offered solutions that were feasible to implement and sustainable.

Businesses may also qualify as a Best Place for Working Parents. To take the free three-minute assessment, visit https://bestplace4workingparents.com/nevada/. If you do not qualify at this time, the Employer Child Care Development Program at The Children’s Cabinet offers support to get you there.

In order for our businesses, economies, and communities to thrive, we must invest in working families. For more information, please visit www.childrenscabinet.org/businesses.
