It’s National Safe Place Week! Get involved and help keep children safe in our community.

Safe Place & Street Outreach

There is always a Safe Place case manager available to talk or to help, 24/7. Please do not hesitate if you feel you are in danger.

Call 1-800-536-4588 or TEXT “SAFE” and current location to 4HELP (44357) to access a Children’s Cabinet Case Manager and a safe place.

Safe Place – Immediate Help for Youth in Crisis

Safe Place is a national outreach and prevention program that provides immediate safety and support for youth in crisis. If you are between the ages of 12 and 17 and feel unsafe at home, school, or in your community, help is available.

You can call 1-800-536-4588 or text “SAFE” and your current location to 4HELP (44357) for assistance. You can also walk into a designated Safe Place location, listed below, and ask for help. A staff member will contact The Children’s Cabinet to assess your situation and provide immediate support. If necessary, we can offer temporary shelter, counseling, and case management services at no cost to you or your family.

At just 14, Mia felt unheard and overwhelmed. A disagreement at home over social media and school led her to leave without permission, searching for answers on her own. When she couldn’t enroll in classes, frustration turned to uncertainty. With nowhere else to turn, Mia reached out to Safe Place.

Become a Safe Place Home

The Children’s Cabinet’s Safe Place program is looking for compassionate individuals to provide short-term emergency shelter for youth aged 12-17 in crisis. As a Safe Place Home, you’ll offer more than just a safe space—you’ll provide support, stability, and access to critical resources to help youth move forward. With stays typically lasting 1-3 nights, you can make a meaningful impact while earning $150 per night on average. We work around your schedule to make participation flexible and convenient. Join us today in creating a safer, more supportive community for youth! To learn more, contact Lacey Keele at lkeele@childrenscabinet.org.

Follow Safe Place on social media!

Safe Place started in 2003 with the mission to provide Washoe County children/youth with a safety net to deal with a dangerous or threatening situation you are not prepared to deal with on your own.  We assess your immediate need to determine what services we can provide such as free individual or family counseling, rental/housing assistance, utility assistance, access to our food pantry, and provide support in looking into other resources you may need.
